08's eight things

Image
AughtEight's Eight zeroes and heroes - whimsicals to perhaps not too shallow stuff...some random 8s #8 - Zaidi does a Nik(e)ita Shoes back as a political statement- Over 48 years after Khurushchev decided to stink up the UN with his rightie, yet another political imagery destined to be etched in people's mind forever. Zaidi does all the shoe statement makers proud with a classic throw @ the bushlord. On a separate note, who was the photographer? was he in the know? #7 When the dragon wore the sheep's clothing Beijing's oscar worthy nomination in their olympics Lets face it. The modern equivalent of Nazi olympics was is and will be the 08 beijing olympics. A growing scary power, to which the rest of the world, namely the western white world, pretty much kowtows to and looks aside at its cruelties and acts of indiscretions.....Pity what else does the world need to see that it is dealing with another evil reich.....Hmmm #6 A country gets hard on for superficiality and ...

26112008 - When india was caught with its pants dropped

26112008 - the date of ignominy as far as indian 21st century progress is concerned. I am sure many a blogs will be out there to talk about the personal losses, the fantastic fightback by the black shirted heroes of bombay, the resilience of a mumbaikar to come through this and all other dollops of bonhomie and ingenuinely genuine bravados. To me, it showed one thing and that we are inequipped to deal with the fundamental necessity of growing as a superpower. A defence system. Agreed we were blindsided by the invasion, but after the invasion, 48 hours and 100 lives lost were 45 hours and 100 lives lost too much.  our defense seemed to lack precision and i am just going to shoot of some points in random order and how they come in my mind which shows how lacking we are as a nation. Firstly, there was no cordoning off in places near the sites of invasions. Gawkers were present as tho they were just seeing a shooting scene (pardon th pun) of a movie with their reel idols. Secondly, from th...

Day 4 - and why the black may have shown me the light

bah,...it gets tougher as subconciously i feel fat, fatter and fattest... some girls i have had crushes on are finding new crushes....nothing majorly crushworthy news here just felt like saying that .... day 4..... i am able to resist the smoke... but i am not able to understand why i am putting on weight or i feel as such...... well planning to start running....yes me and running...i avoided running all my life just cos i hated it....must have had something to do with the monotony or the lubdublubdublubdublubdub.......... anyway, 2 weeks ago, i was , yet again in a social gathering, where i was the only smoker and had no packs on me. But one such social smoker claimed he had the Blacks, a clove scented smokes which i tried and didnt really get my "fix" as with marlboros and other ciggies.....i poohpoohed it cos maybe there was no real cigarette...... later in that nite, i had gone to a club, where the bouncer came up with this startling announcement that the blacks are extre...

Quitting Smoking - day 2...(day 0 and 1 inclusive)

Once again, i am trying to quit smoking.this time i am determined to quit it for good...  just gonna try to keep blogging on this to keep my daily progresss.... on saturday i didnt buy ciggies and then by voice of reasoning from the few around, i decided to embark on the quitting scene yet again. Sunday i was not too concerned as i kept telling myself that i am not denying myself anything. that is the biggest difference from last times to this times.I am constantly reminding myself I am not denying myself anything In the night, when walking grizzly when i am usually most tempted, i was able to ignore the craving...... ---Day 2 ---- HAve eaten celery sticks, carrot, peas, soup, 3 clementines..... have 2 bananas and 1 apple left..... i feel subconciously whether i am putting on weight....but ges tis just subconcious ...i will be fine... and i will be able to climb without losing wind again...thats motiviation.... well we will see shall we...how long i go on this...my motto this time is t...

did mccain do a maverick on the GOP?

well everyone knows by now, we have all witnessed history in the making and there will be billion other blogs praising the new leader of the free world. I must add, i am impressed with the way he has been and above all his speech after the announcement.  But McCain was no distant second. His parting speech revealed this man as a patriot. Nothing tugs  my heart than a true patriot of any country. In this era of greed and people selling their mothers and motherland for the green buck and fast life, it was a thrilling to see a hall of famer in many people's heart prove his love for his country. Refreshing.... The Conspiracy theorist in me wonders this, did mccain foresee that republicans were a plague to americans and set them up? Hiring a dumb belle as vp nominee, going in against the grain of his own fiber and coming out as "clueless"? did the ultimate libertarians actually helped in usher perhaps a historical watershed moment of 21st century? ur guess is as good as mine.....

institutionally inclined for travesty

as a rejoinder to this blog , and a rather generic point of view of indian mindset, i decide to just give out a generic outpouring nothing against a specific example. Humans are inclined to be institutionally minded. nay, not the mental kind but the fact that, they all need to subscribe to certain rules and regulations, certain accepted norms of goodness, badness and ugliness. a human is mostly unable to singularly determine what is good, bad or ugly. for most cases. he needs the spoon feeding of a society to explain to him these finer nuances. he also believes in comfort that he is not alone and belongs to a group of "like minded " individuals like him. it gives a man certain degree of achievement of having a sense of purpose of belonging. With such insititutionally minded society, which is known as a "sabha" , comes out an important aspect of human societal mind, the political structure which controls within the sabha and out of it too. this political structure hi...

and then it hits me...i am still stuck

today i realized that certain things come to your life, leave an impression and leave you rooted to it for rest of your life. At least the life in which one can still think and feel. today i "googled" the past just to come across the fact that the past could very well be at end of the street. end of the better street of my life. Not for the past, the drudgery i drag my ass back to at end of the day. Not for the past, the responsibility, but for the past the new shining window of opportunities and success. It filled me with love pride hatred envy anger desolation and depression, all at the same time. And that is when i realized I am stuck with these feelings and the rest of my life is to be able to get over them, tough i must say or get myself over my past in my own eyes....tough too someone said life is not fair....i agree..... someone said life is a game of win and lose...i disagree someone disagreed with the above that life is win-win for some and lose-lose for rest....I ag...

wud atlas have held up?

What would have Atlas done if God was pissing on him from top and the dogs were biting his legs? would he have thrown the world and walked away? What is a man to do in such a case? a walk away is considered cowardice or understandable?or keep holding up the god forsaken world? i guess the load is not just in the load we are supposed to hold up but also the "distractions" which keep bothering us when we have to hold up the load.... wish we can all walk away and send the "world" crashing to pieces!

something really apt....

in this era of acronyms and lols and omgs, communication is pretty much hitting the nadir. in this time , i come across this quote from "ameen sayani" Five ‘S’ are very important for sanchar (communication). Firstly, it should be sahi . It should be correct. There should be no mistakes in it. Secondly, it should be satya . It should be truthful. Thirdly, it should be spasht , absolutely clear and unambiguous. Fourthly, it should be saral or simple. And lastly, it should be sundar . It must be appealing and attractive. Perfect!

my fives, mon cinq, ennoda anju....

impulsive has tagged me to reveal a few fives about myself :) “The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.” Since i dunno 5 bloggers...i will just post my 5.... 1) What were you doing 5 years ago? 5 years ago, i was blissfully in love with who i thought was the woman of my life, working to pursue my entrepreneurial dream and setting up my life for the typical life everybody aspire to lead, love, family and marital bliss. Still at work... - play with the dogs - email my friends - check cricket scores - check the team sign up page and analzye the opponents strength and weakness for this weekend game - take percocet for my broken nose ! a blip ...

i must admit my blogging rate is pathetic at its best. in midst of a rejoinder blog which i started a week ago, i decided to post this little one. definitely a blip in my blog mindset of late. all because of a little blip in my mop of hair atop my head.... yes, i am balding and in the back. all the hot shower to clear my head has started working literally. a nice little blip, like a patch of erosion in midst of amazon forest. this has shaken me a bit as it made me aware of slipping of time in more than one ways. i was reminded of 2 incidents from not so long ago past, both dating to good ole times in syracuse when i was in grad school. firstly, tis not a secret, that i have inherited my grandfather's wide forehead. I maintain it is not a receding hairline, but people do tend to disagree with me on this. And all the time, i would remind them of the classical barber's adage with a certain flavor from me Baldness in the front, says the man is a thinker Baldness in the back, shows ...

nom de plume or nom de coleur or nom de rien?

some time ago, impulsive-outpourings posted a blog on the aura of anonymity in the blog world. This rather touched a raw nerve in me and especially scathed even further when a friend of mine, the same old brutus, wondered about the openness of one self on the cyberworld. I am for one who likes to be an open book in all my affairs, and i try to strictly abide by it as far as possible, with certain acceptable exceptions। The exceptions can be deferred to some other blog for now. let me focus on the content of this blog and that is the (in)validity of nom de plume in modern era. wikipedia defines nom de plume as follows :- A pen name, nom de plume, or literary double, is a pseudonym adopted by an author for various reasons. Authors may use a pen name to replace a long, difficult, or uninteresting name or a name likely to be confused with the name of another writer or notable individual, or to avoid overexposure. so let us consider the 3 things mentioned above color coded for clarificati...
