26112008 - When india was caught with its pants dropped

26112008 - the date of ignominy as far as indian 21st century progress is concerned. I am sure many a blogs will be out there to talk about the personal losses, the fantastic fightback by the black shirted heroes of bombay, the resilience of a mumbaikar to come through this and all other dollops of bonhomie and ingenuinely genuine bravados.

To me, it showed one thing and that we are inequipped to deal with the fundamental necessity of growing as a superpower. A defence system. Agreed we were blindsided by the invasion, but after the invasion, 48 hours and 100 lives lost were 45 hours and 100 lives lost too much.

our defense seemed to lack precision and i am just going to shoot of some points in random order and how they come in my mind which shows how lacking we are as a nation.

Firstly, there was no cordoning off in places near the sites of invasions. Gawkers were present as tho they were just seeing a shooting scene (pardon th pun) of a movie with their reel idols.
Secondly, from the pictures at least, we did not have a sniper battalion or the ATS commandos were equipped with some gats that few in ghetto couple of miles from where i live would probably be laughing at.

Thirdly and more importantly, the complete eunuchity of our leaders. Nay a strong leader coming down on the terrorist and breathing fire. Not a leader to calm the people in an assuring manner and definitely not a strategist as to realize what exactly is happening over here.

Fourth, when the israelis and FBI want to come and involve because there were few jews in the shootout. This is the ultimate slap on the face of india as a nation, as a nation of sovereignity capable of managing what is within its boundaries and perimeters. It is as to the point that your neighbor enters your  house to fix a broken step just because his kid slipped on it and you are not given the driving seat on how to fix your own house. You are better off handing off your house to your neighbor and realize you are just incapable of being a houseowner.

Fifthly, how in the world did these terrorist just slip in? Why cant we close the bloody borders?

Sixthly, back to the operation cleanup. How did our commandos die? we easily outnumbered the terrorists. How in the world did we suffer loss? Are we that incapable? Or were we so afraid of not slicing the white man who could probably get hurt ? Havent they heard of collateral damage?

From this, India better wake up and realize it is high time it throws away its secularism garb and move towards a more fundamentalistic government. Fundamentalism does not deserve the negativity it has garnered in the last few years. it is more aptly described as

Fundamentalism refers to a "deep and totalistic commitment" to a belief in, and strict adherence to a set of basic principles (often religious in nature), a reaction to perceived doctrinal compromises with modern social and political life.

The totalistic commitment to a belief and basic principles is what our government needs.

What are the basic principles it can seek to focus on?

1) Understanding India's identity. No more secularism, No more NAM,  A powerful nation can be only if it is
aligned towards and driven by a political agenda, a raison d'etre.
2) A country which is closed border, gives no inch to other nation's claims. How come we are the only one who is always in a border dispute? Has canada/mexico ever fought with USA of late?
That is superpower talking without opening its mouth. Like the alpha dog claiming his space in a pack and the reset
understanding it.
3) a less abstract principle but more important would be to stop becoming the coolie of the west and start focussing on
the infrastructure, research and development , define self sustained industries, stop MNC invasion, stop BPO crap,
start pure and applieed research. So few college kids will not have 20-30 k jobs answering phone calls in fake accents
and thinking they are the smartest IT generation ever. Fewer malls will have fancy yuppies throwing money around, but
in the long run, India will be a proud country with its own infrastructure and R&D and what nots.

this can go on and on and on.....

this is just a vomit of my thoughts and no article of deep insightful thinkings......
